Former Jewish Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who was shot in the head in a deadly shooting in Arizona  two years ago, has called on Congress to “be bold” and “do something” to stop gun violence. Six people were murdered in the shooting spree.

Speaking at a congressional hearing on the issue, she said, “It will be hard, but the time is now. Be bold, be courageous."

Giffords previously had supported the right to bear arms, and four years go she backed gun rights and opposed prohibitions on the possession of handguns in the home.

The former Congresswoman and her husband, former astronaut Mark Kelly, have launched a political action committee, Americans for Responsible Solutions, intended to combat firearms violence.
