Syria Bombs Rebels’ Smuggling Route in Lebanon

The Syrian army staged a rare bombing attack on Lebanon, near the border with Syria, Monday in an apparent attempt to strike at a weapons smuggling route used by rebels fighting Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Four rockets hit the eastern town of Arsal in the second aerial attack inside Lebanon since the uprising against Assad, according to the Beirut Daily Star.

Syria warned the Lebanese foreign ministry last week it has avoided striking “concentrations of armed gangs inside Lebanese territory in order to prevent them from crossing into Syrian territory…but this will not last indefinitely.”
