Kinneret Up One Meter Since Winter's Start

The tremendous rains over the past five days raised the water level of the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee) by 53 centimeters. Since the beginning of this winter's rainy season, the Kinneret's water level rose an astounding one meter.

Currently the Kinneret is at 210.86 meters below sea level, and is 2.06 meters below the Upper Red Line. Once it reaches the Upper Red Line the Lake will be at full capacity and the Degania dam is opened, feeding water into the Jordan River.

The lake is now 2.14 meters above the Lower Red Line. Below that line, the lake begins to suffer ecological damage.

According to Mekorot, Israel's national water carrier, the volume of water at the Upper Red Line is 4.3 billion cubic meters and at the Bottom Red Line it is 3.6 billion cubic meters, and the lake has a maximum depth of 43 meters.
