American-Israeli Professor Appointed Governor of Bank of Israel

Shades of Stanley Fischer, Prime Minister Netanyahu and Finance Mnister Kahlon have announced that an Israeli-American professor will be appointed the new governor of the Bank of Israel, replacing outgoing Karnit Flug as she completes her 5-year term next month.

Professor Amir Yaron, was born in Tel Aviv in 1964. He has a B.A. and an M.A. from Tel Aviv University, and another M.A. as well as a Ph.D are from the University of Chicago.

Yaron is a Robert Morris Professor of Banking and Professor of Finance in The Wharton School in University of Pennsylvania. His interests include asset pricing, macro-finance, and applied time series econometrics. He's lived in the US for more than 20 years.

Yaron was a captain in the IDF, and served as the financial advisor to the Chief of Staff, according to Globes.

Prime Minister Netanyahu has shown a clear preference for American trained economists for key finance positions.
