A joyous celebration and Torah dedication in memory of Harry Berger, z”l, took place in Boca Raton on Sunday, June 1. The event began at 9 a.m. at the home of Alan and Susie Berger and continued with dancing, music and refreshments at the Boca Raton Synagogue, 7900 Montoya Circle.

Harry Berger, born in Poland, was a Holocaust survivor who immigrated to America in 1951. He lived in New York, where he owned a successful butcher shop and invested in real estate. In 1972 Harry came to Florida and got the proverbial “sand in his shoes.” For the next 30 years he and his brothers were investors in hotels in South Florida.

Mr. Berger was known for his good heart and charitable ways. He witnessed and endured unspeakable atrocities in the Shoah and yet was a positive and loving soul.

Contributions collected for the writing of the Sefer Torah were contributed to the Jewish Education Scholarship Fund. The fund offers assistance to parents and allows them to keep their children in a Jewish school and receive a Jewish education.
