Gallup: Americans' Favorable Views of Israel at 17-Year High

Americans' stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is as strongly pro-Israel as at any time in Gallup's three-decade trend (Americans Remain Staunchly in Israel's Corner). Israel's favorable numbers are the highest since 1991, when, during Iraqi Scud missile attacks against Israel in the Gulf War, the Jewish State's favorable rating reached 79%.

Incidentally, Germany's favorable rating today is 84% according to Gallup, which stands to show you Jews have to work harder to be liked…

Today, 74% of US adults view Israel favorably, 23% unfavorably – while 21% view the Palestinian Authority favorably and 71% unfavorably.

And lest you feel sorry for the Palestinian Authority, this is their second consecutive year with rating above 20%, after six years below twenty.

Along party lines, no one is in Israel's corner more than Republicans (and to think that as recently as 1990, Republican President George Herbert Bush tried to suppress $10 billion in loan guarantees to Israel which needed the money to settle a million Russian olim).

According to Gallup, 83% of Republicans, 72% of independents and 64% of Democrats view Israel favorably – while 27% of Democrats, 21% of independents and 12% of Republicans view the Palestinian Authority favorably.

Also according to Gallup, the percentage of Republicans sympathizing with Israel increased from 59% in February 2001 to 87% this year. Democrats have increased from 42% supporting Israel in 2001 to 49% this year. Independents moved up from 51% favoring Israel in 2001 to 59% today.

Results for this Gallup poll are based on telephone interviews conducted Feb. 1-10, 2018, with a random sample of 1,044 adults, aged 18 and older, living in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. The margin of sampling error is ±4 percentage points at the 95% confidence level.
