As the new IDF enlistment law is being hammered out by the Netanyahu coalition partners, Israel Hayom reported on Tuesday that the army is planning to recruit a Haredi company into the Golani Brigade.

The storied 1st "Golani" Brigade, a regular service infantry brigade subordinated to the 36th Division and traditionally associated with the Northern Command, was formed during Israel's 1948 War of Independence. Its traditional area of operations includes the Lower Galilee and Jezreel Valley, the Jordan Valley and the Hula Valley, with major population centers including Safed, Tiberias, Beit She'an and Nazareth.

According to the plan, which is being formulated in collaboration between the IDF HR division and the Golani Brigade, the special Haredi company will be added to the ranks of the brigade come March 2019.

Today there are approximately 7,600 Haredi soldiers and officers in the IDF, serving a wide range of functions in combat, cyber, and other programs.

The new company will be supported by the Shachar organization and Netzach Yehuda association, which accompany the Haredi tracks in the other IDF divisions.
