Gulf Arab States Impose Sanctions on Hezbollah over Syria

Gulf Arab states on Monday threatened sanctions against the Lebanese Shi'ite terrorist group Hezbollah in retaliation for its intervention in support of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Reuters reported.

The six Sunni-led members of the Gulf Cooperation Council issued a similar statement, according to the GCC secretariat, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency:

"The GCC ministerial council has decided to take measures against those enlisted in the party (Hezbollah) residing in the member states, whether with regard to their residencies or their financial and commercial dealings."

Saudi Arabia and Qatar have openly been calling for Assad to resign, and have been arming the mostly Sunni rebels.

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said last week that Syria and Lebanon faced a common threat from radical Sunni Islamists.
