HaRav Aharon Leib Shteinman, ZT”L

The Jewish Press joins Klal Yisrael in mourning the passing of HaRav Aharon Leib Shteinman of Bnei Brak, widely recognized as the foremost leader of the Torah world. A major scholar, he was the author of numerous sefarim, including voluminous commentaries on Chumash, Talmud, and Rashi, and was renowned for his regimen of long periods of uninterrupted Torah study.

Known for his extraordinarily incisive intellect, Rav Shteinman was regularly sought out by individuals with personal problems as well as Israeli governmental officials seeking guidance on public issues.

Despite his prominence and service as a vital resource to so many, Rav Shteinman’s personal life was one of absolute simplicity, austerity, and dedication to the selfless service of his Creator. First-hand accounts abound about his humble living quarters and his shunning of modern conveniences.
