The word for president is נָשִׂיא (l isten and repeat). In the original Biblical Hebrew, נשיא referred to a person of stature and leadership in a particular group or tribe. The root of the word is נ.שׂ.א (n.s.a) meaning raising up.For example:

וְעִידַת הַנָּשִׂיא מִתְרַחֶשֶׁת כָּעֵת בִּירוּשָלַיִם.
