Chabad-Lubavitch rabbinical students are on the ground in Iceland finishing up preparations for one of the northernmost celebrations of Yom Kippur in the world. The holiest day on the Jewish calendar, the holiday and its central fast begins Tuesday night, or 7 PM local time in Reykjavik.

According to Rabbi Berel Pewzner, a native of Harrisburg, Pa., whose current and past visits to the island nation have been coordinated by Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch, the educational arm of Chabad-Lubavitch, all services and a break-fast meal Wednesday evening will take place at the Hotel Orkin.

“I was raised to help every Jew,” said Pewzner, whose first trip to Iceland was for Passover in 2011. “I love meeting Jews and seek to assist them in any way possible.”
