Iran Divestment

We applaud the passage by the New York State Legislature of the Iran Divestment Act of 2012. The measure would prohibit state and local governments from conducting business with companies that invest in Iran's energy sector.

As explained by Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, a strong supporter of the law,

Companies that invest in Iran's energy sector only provide greater resources to advance further acts of terror. This vital legislation will bar governments in New York from doing business with any of these companies.

Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos, who shepherded the bill through the State Senate, commended “Speaker Silver for taking the lead on this effort and passing it in the Assembly.”

We also note the leadership of the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York and New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli on the issue.
