Russia's Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika and his Israeli counterpart Shai Nitzan met in Jerusalem last week to sign a memorandum on cooperation between the two departments, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office reported.

The memorandum defines the main areas of cooperation between the two parties: protection of human rights and freedoms, and countering crime, terrorism, extremism, and illegal trafficking in weapons and drugs.

The Russian and Israeli prosecutors have also agreed to jointly combat illegal migration and human trafficking, cyber crime, corruption and other crimes that pose a serious threat to society.

According to the document, close cooperation is expected on issues such as extradition and legal assistance in criminal matters—including seizure, confiscation and return of assets obtained by criminal means.

The cooperation will include vocational training and professional development of senior prosecution officials in both countries.
