Israeli Stars Set to Shine at the 2026 US Open Wheelchair Championships

While Israeli players are missing from the standard singles draws this late August, Israeli athletic excellence will be front and center at the 2026 US Open Wheelchair and Quad Championships in Queens. Israel continues its storied legacy of elite wheelchair tennis, sending two powerhouse competitors directly into this year's main acceptance lists at Flushing Meadows.
Leading the charge for Israel is Guy Sasson, who enters the Quad Division ranked as the World No. 3. The Quad category is specifically designated for athletes who have physical impairments affecting three or more limbs, requiring unique adaptations such as taping the racquet to the hand or utilizing power wheelchairs. Sasson has established himself as one of the premier wheelchair tennis stars on earth and represents Israel’s absolute best hope for Grand Slam silverware in New York. A multi-time Grand Slam singles champion and Paralympic bronze medalist, Sasson enters the tournament as a top seed alongside global rivals Niels Vink and Sam Schröder. Equipped with hard-court firepower, tactical sharpness, and extensive big-match experience, he is exceptionally well-positioned to mount a serious championship run on the hard courts.
In the Men's Wheelchair Division, which features players with lower-body impairments who retain full upper-body mobility and arm function, Sergei Lysov will carry the Israeli flag after earning direct acceptance into the field as World No. 12. Though Lysov faces a stacked draw anchored by international superstars Tokito Oda and Alfie Hewett, his direct qualification underscores his steady rise on the world stage and guarantees a strong Israeli presence in the main draw. Together, Sasson and Lysov ensure that Israeli determination and sporting spirit will be proudly on display at tennis's biggest American venue.
