An Israeli man who lived in Queens, NY died Tuesday morning when the small plane he was piloting crashed on the south shore of the Long Island, New York.

The pilot, Hanan Shoshani, 53, was the only person aboard the aircraft, a single-engine Lancair LC-41, which was flying between two small Long Island airports about 10 miles (16 km) apart.

The plane crashed in the side yard of a home in East Patchogue, scattering shards of glass into a room where a baby was sleeping, according to local officials. The baby’s mother was in another part of the house at the time. Both escaped unharmed.
