Chareidi Jews in the neighborhood of Meah Shearim, in Jerusalem, perform the Kaparot ceremony on October 10, 2016 ahead of Yom Kippur.

The chickens are subsequently slaughtered and given out to the poor for food.

Money can also be used in place of a chicken.
