Nazir Ahmed, a Labor member of the House of Lords, has been suspended over allegations he blamed his prison sentence for dangerous driving on a "Jewish conspiracy."

Ahmed, 55, went to prison in 2009 for driving while texting just before getting his car into a fatal crash.

The Times of London says that, in an Urdu-language TV interview, Lord Ahmed blamed a "Jewish-owned media organization" for his 12-week prison sentence. He said the organization put pressure on the courts to throw the book at him.

The Labor Party said on Thursday that it "deplores and does not tolerate" Antisemitism and Ahmed will remain suspended pending an investigation.

Ahmed was suspended from the party last year over reports he offered a bounty for the capture of President Barack Obama.

He denied the reports.
