Lebanese Troops Approach Border, IDF Throws Smoke Grenades
The Lebanese Army has accused the IDF of attacking two Lebanese Military Intelligence agents in the southern border area of Rmeish on Tuesday morning.
“As a patrol from the Intelligence Directorate was inspecting a land plot between points B36 and BP14, they came under an attack from a patrol belonging to the Israeli enemy,” the Lebanese army said in a statement.
According to the statement, the IDF patrol threw several smoke grenades at the agents, which resulted in both suffocation as well as a small blaze set to the surrounding field. Shortly after, members of the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) arrived on the scene, and along with a Lebanese army patrol, worked to douse the flames.
The IDF Spokesman’s unit confirmed to Tazpit Press Service (TPS) that the incident took place, saying that “IDF troops spotted a group of suspects who approached the border fence. Troops arrived on the scene and hurled smoke grenades in order to distance them, and they eventually retreated.”
