Israeli defense company Rafael has developed a version of the Iron Dome missile defense system for the high seas.

The new naval defense system is based on the Iron Dome interception system, according to IsraelDefense.com.

It is called the Naval Point Defense System - C-Dome (get it? Sea Dome) - and will protect combat vessels against a wide array of modern maritime threats. It has a very short reaction time, can engage multiple targets simultaneously.

C-Dome components include a multi-round launcher assembly loaded with vertically-launched canisterized "Tamir" interceptors. C-Dome does not require a dedicated Fire Control Radar because it utilizes the ship's own surveillance radar. The launcher is installed underneath the ship's deck. With its compact size, the C-DOME can be used even on small ships.

Tamir interceptors have been successfully employed in more than a thousand intercepts in recent combat engagements.
