Rav Ovadia Receives Pacemaker Upgrade

Rav Ovadia Yosef underwent a successful procedure to replace an electrode in the temporary pacemaker he had recently received. He is still sedated and on a respirator in the intensive care unit at the Hadassah Ein Karem medical Center.

The original pacemaker had apparently caused an infection.

The hospital released a statement saying the operation was done at the cardiology department, after which the rabbi was returned to the ICU. His condition continues to be critical but stable.

Doctors at the center have expressed cautious optimism, based on the fact that Rav Yosef's condition has not deteriorated any further.
