Some American Jews feel their community has been hijacked from within by groups waging war against Israel seemingly in the name of the Jewish people.
Richard Allen of JCC Watch, evoking the character Johnny Friendly from the Marlon Brando movie, "On the Waterfront" said, "Nothing moves on the NYC Jewish waterfront without John Ruskay's approval."
In the aftermath of an ugly scandal, as the 92nd St Y starts a search for a new executive director, it should institute guidelines not only about morality and criminality, but also to prevent Jewish communal dollars from being used to support boycotters and other haters of Israel
"Donor Fraud" is when money is raised from Jewish donors on the pretext that it will be used to support the Jewish community, and instead some of that money is used to actively promote those who viciously attack Israel.
Pro-Israel groups are now turning to the UJA-Federation and asking that it stop providing funds to organizations which use those funds to promote virulently anti-Israel activists. If not, a "Close Your Wallet" campaign will begin this summer.
Richard Allen of JCC Watch said, "There has been a pattern - first with [BDS activist] Roger Waters and now with Alice Walker. All of our efforts to speak with the 92nd Street Y administrators have been met with closed doors, closed ears and closed minds."
The Coalition of Concerned Cardozo Alumni, however, looked at Carter's "lifetime of work" and rather than see something worthy of an award, they saw a record of slandering Israel.
