Some 1,000 Special In Uniform soldiers from communities across Israel are serving in 45 bases in all branches of the IDF.
SIU brought together 950 volunteers with disabilities, approximately 50% of whom were diagnosed on the autistic spectrum, into varying capacities in the IDF.

Special in Uniform is a pioneering military inclusion program that absorbs youths with mild physical and mental disabilities, offers them extensive skills training and incorporates them into appropriate positions in the IDF, with a focus on their abilities.
Soldiers with Asperger syndrome or autism are also used in some of the IDF’s most secret units for technological development.
