Word Prompt - GENESIS - Bari Mitzmann

Genesis is often associated with “in the beginning Hashem created…” I find the fact that we start Sefer Bereishis right after a series of holidays reconnecting with the Almighty so appropriate.

Rosh Hashana helps us reset, recognizing that Hashem is the Creator of the world and is continuously involved in the world. Yom Kippur allows us to shed an old part of ourselves, allowing us to be reborn or “recreated” if we will.

Then we go and remove ourselves from the materialism to sit with Hashem, connect with them and then to celebrate the Torah, this gift with which He created the world.

Every year we go through our own sort of Genesis through the process of our Jewish calendar. However, this can happen much more often if we choose to recreate ourselves. All we need to do is access that piece of ourselves that is from the Ultimate Creator, remember why we are here and what we’re here to do, who we are now and who we want to be.
