Word Prompt - LOX - Naomi Klass Mauer

When I hear someone say lox, I look for the bagels and the cream cheese.

When I was a young girl, we spent summers in the Pioneer Country Club in the Catskill Mountains. In those years the entertainment was a comedian in all the hotels and food was a major part of the jokes. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize then, that for many Jews Judaism meant eating kosher style, and that’s where all the bagel and lox jokes came from.

Today, I do enjoy a good bagel, lox, and cream cheese sandwich, with onion and tomato. In Israel I discovered that lox is a delicacy and quite expensive, so I don’t indulge very often. But when I do, it brings back those warm memories of long ago in the mountains.

A few years ago, I took some grandchildren to the aquarium and one of them asked me which fish is my favorite one. I wasn’t sure how to answer that. I never thought of a favorite fish. So to help me out he gave me a hint and said, you know – the lox.
