Yeshiva Kids’ Lives Matter, Too

In our September 11 issue we called attention to a bill in the New York City Council that would provide for the deployment of NYPD school safety officers in non-public schools in the same way they are deployed in public schools. Despite overwhelming support by Council members, however, the bill languishes because of the failure of the administration to get behind it.

With three new supporters, the bill now has 48 of the council’s 51 members behind it. It’s time for the administration to make it happen. Councilman David Greenfield, the chief sponsor of the bill said, “When the safety of our children is at stake, there is simply no justification for distinguishing between public and non-public schools.”
