A Victory For Educational Choice

We applaud the Senate’s confirmation of Betsy DeVos as secretary of education. For the first time in memory we will have someone in that post committed to fair treatment for religious school and other non-public school students.

In recent years the U.S. Supreme Court has cleared a constitutional path for programs such as educational vouchers that would permit religious and other non-public school students to receive the same economic benefits as their public school counterparts.

Yet decision-makers in Washington were committed to the public school community to the exclusion of the non-public school sector and stymied efforts to provide equivalent non-public school funding. Hopefully that will now change.
