Amazing, Building Jerusalem's Fifth Water Supply Pipeline

The construction of the fifth water supply pipeline to Jerusalem is underway. The project is estimated to cost NIS 2.5 billion, and will be able to satisfy Jerusalem's water needs until 2065.

The 100 inch diameter.pipeline is divided into a western and eastern section. The western Hulda Station will connect to the National Water Carrier, and will travel eastward to the Eshta'ol junction. From there it will connect to the eastern section which continues to the Meza valley and will connect to Jerusalem's municipal water system.

One part of the pipeline goes through a 13.5 kilometer underground tunnel that ends at Ein Karem in Jerusalem.

Altogether there it has 40 kilometers of tunnels, piping, pumping stations and pools.

In addition the pipeline will supply water to Jerusalem periphery areas, such as Abu Ghosh and Mevasseret Zion.
