An Upside Down World

When a child is trembling with fear, When guns command him to raise his hands in the air You know beyond a shadow of doubt The World Has Gone Upside Down.
When he’s too scared to scream, to cry or, To utter even a single prayer For fear of his family being taken out You know The World Has Gone Upside Down.
He attempts to slip to their side, To be together, live or die But the devils stop him in his tracks The World Has Gone Upside Down.
On the outside he’s calm and composed, But watch him closely, and you will know He’s shaking, his breathing is fast And The World Has Gone Upside Down.
An innocent child facing the night, Unprepared for this moment, he’s shaking with fright But despite this his hands remain high The World Has Gone Upside Down.
He thinks deep inside, too afraid to speak, “G-d, save me from my fate lest my hands grow weak. I’m too young to die The World Has Gone Upside Down.”
“Please buy me more time, I don’t want to die I’ve barely begun to live.” The World Has Gone Upside Down.
If he could have known this before, To escape the clutches of war Anything he would give. The World Has Gone Upside Down.
His nation’s being led to die, They scream, “Am Yisrael Chai! We will never be erased.” The World Has Gone Upside Down.
Families torn apart one by one, Mothers from daughters, fathers from sons And he is still frozen in place The World Has Gone Upside Down.
His years were so very few, He may die now for being a Jew He never dreamed it would end like this The World Has Gone Upside Down.
Destruction is taking its toll, So many will never be whole Amid the smoke who knows where he is? The World Has Gone Upside Down.
Though some may live through this night, Though some may be all right We’re still shaken from this demonic foe The World Has Gone Upside Down.
A boy with his hands raised, The moment is forever saved But as for him, how will we know? The World Has Gone Upside Down.
