I didn’t know it then, but I was simply stepping into something that fit better. We don’t always understand why we are where we are, but hopefully, with time, it begins to make perfect sense.
I have deep gratitude for my professional teachers. But the lessons that shaped me most are the ones I learned from my students, especially those who challenged me the most.
There’s a fine line between lazy and intentional. It may appear like we're avoiding certain tasks, when really we're prioritizing where to expend our energy and focus. (At least, that's what I keep trying to explain to my accountant!)
It seemed totally impossible for him to come out unscathed. And yet he did. He then revealed a very narrow space, just big enough to curl into, safely out of reach of the nails.
Laughing puts us at ease. It breaks the ice and creates warmth and connection between people. It boosts our physical and mental health. It helps our minds open to learn. And perhaps most fitting in this case, it is a powerful coping tool.
Each year, when the snow starts to melt for the last time of the season and I hear the sounds of children dragging their bikes out of the shed, or the rhythmic bounce of a basketball on the court next door, I feel grateful for the change in seasons.

What if we approached our fellow person in distress with the same amount of thought and consideration? What if we took time to think about the recommended guidelines instead of just saying or doing what popped into our minds?
I cringed at the collective sigh of relief from the group. It was jarring in front of a man who never leaves the dark. He probably hears it often.
Because the Torah is timeless. It’s for 1st graders. It’s for 12th graders. It’s for everyone in between and beyond.
Only recently did I realize how much of an impact my 6th grade teacher had on my life; she strengthened and encouraged my love for reading, writing – and puzzles!
Whether there’s a bumblebee circling the conference room, snowflakes flurrying outside the classroom, or an alert buzzing on all the phones in the auditorium: trying to maintain everyone’s attention is a futile battle.
It’s the little light bulb moments, the pithy nuggets of wisdom, and the sharing of life perspective that came about during those teacher shmoozes.
But what does “good” even mean? Passable? Pleasant? Positive? According to our tradition, isn’t everything good if G-d wanted it?
Open any Jewish history book. Attend any Jewish history lecture. The value of teaching about the thorns in our past will be there.
I sometimes wonder what it must have felt like to be him: to not just believe but to know you have important words to share – words from G-d no less – but the people don’t want to hear it.
