Congresswoman Waters Breaks The Rules

We are surely not alone in our dismay over the recent antics of Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-Cal.). Although a senior elected official, she seems to have gone rogue, urging opponents of the Trump administration to confront and harass its members as they go about their daily lives.

In a recent television interview, Waters – who has been relentless in calling for the impeachment of President Trump – said, “For those members of [Trump’s] Cabinet who remain and try to defend him, they’re not going to be able to go to a restaurant. They’re not going to be able to stop at a gas station. They’re not going to be able to shop at a department store.”

Water’s comments followed the unceremonious expulsion of White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and her dinner party from the Red Hen restaurant in Lexington, Virginia and after a crowd of hecklers shouted at Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen as she ate in a Mexican restaurant in Washington, DC, soon after she defended the Trump Administration’s immigration policy.

While we know that some believe we have reached a point at which mob rule is a moral imperative, we would have thought that a veteran member of the Congress would understand that mob rule in the long run endangers us all. And in the short run, her antics may well result in serious harm to some of the objects of her harangues.

Considering the nature of her comments, the criticisms directed at her by Senate Democrat Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Democrat Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi – welcome as they are – don’t quite cut it.
