Cuomo’s Gaffe

What fascinates about Governor Andrew Cuomo’s now famous  “[America] was never that great” comment is its context. How does someone who has been involved in serious politics since his teenage years (under the tutelage of his eminent father), and served as New York’s governor and attorney general, not have the smarts to foresee what critics would make of such a statement?

Only the anti-Trump “resistance” mentality that has seized the progressive left can explain such a lack of judgment. When the 2016 presidential election results came in, Cuomo and others in the progressive crowd seemingly collectively resolved to automatically challenge anything and everything President Trump would do or advocate. So instead of countering the president’s mantra of vowing to “make America great again” by disagreeing on how to do so, he now, unthinkingly, disputes its very premise.

To be sure, Cuomo did conclude the address in which he made the controversial remark by offering some specifics on how to achieve greatness in the future, but these came off as seeming afterthoughts. Sadly, we think his wooden approach toward anything Trump says a lot about his judgment.
