Democratic No-Shows At AIPAC

By Editorial Board

If you’re looking for evidence of the left wing’s stranglehold on the Democratic Party, here are some names:

Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Bernie Sanders, Beto O'Rourke, Peter Buttigieg, Julian Castro, Cory Booker, and Amy Klobuchar.

These are all declared Democratic candidates for president, and none of them attended AIPAC’s annual conference in Washington, D.C.

While some may minimize these no-shows (after all AIPAC did not officially invite any elected official to speak), this is clearly a departure from years past, when supporting AIPAC – a public affairs committee dedicated to enhancing the well-established relationship between the U.S. and Israel – was seen as an uncontroversial move.

The Jewish community can remind these politicians, as well as the Democratic Party as a whole, of its displeasure by calling and emailing them – and, of course, by voting in the next election.

We would be remiss if we did not praise New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who attended, stating that it was important for a progressive Democrat to be among the attendees and speakers (see our interview of de Blasio on page 23). Kudos, Mr. Mayor.
