The not-for-profit Hiddush (Freedom, Religion and Equality) organization last week approached the Israeli Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein and the Chairman of the Central Election Commission, Justice Elyakim Rubinstein, demanding a ruling on whether the offer made by Rabbi Zalman Leib Teitelbaum of Satmar to pay grants to various educational institutions in the country if their students boycotted the elections constitutes election bribery.

The request was made following news that Rabbi Teitelbaum, who lives in the United States, announced that after the elections he would pay a grant of one hundred thousand dollars to each yeshiva whose students abstained from voting.
