IDF Ditching US's M-16, Going Blue and White

The IDF, defenders of the Jewish state and flag, are finally going blue and white.

After two decades of adapting the US’s M-16 for Israeli use, the Israeli army will be casting aside the American-made product for an Israeli one – the Tavor assault rifle.

Prior to investing in a stock of M-16s, Israel had used the Galil, an Israeli-designed weapon based on Russia’s AK-47.

The Tavor first entered distribution in November 2001 to the Givati Brigade.  At the moment, Tavors are in use by all military personnel except for Paratroopers, Kfir Brigades soldiers, and reservists.
