As of Thursday, the Military Rabbinate will render all IDF bases kosher for the Jewish holiday of Passover. After weeks of heavy-duty spring cleaning, soldiers across the IDF will be joined in the field by military rabbis who will certify the bases and assist if need be. By the end of the day, with the mission accomplished, the IDF will be declared Kosher for Passover.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Monday on the case of Zivotofsky v. Clinton, a suit in which Naomi and Ari Zivotofsky are challenging the way the State Department may list the birthplace of their son, nine-year-old Menachem. The State Department decided that little Menachem's US passport should show Jerusalem as his birth place, without an accompanying country.
The Iron Dome Support Act (IDSA) authorizes and encourages President Obama to provide funds for the "procurement, maintenance and sustainment" of more of the anti-missile defense systems, should the Israeli government request it. The legislation was actually inspired by an op-ed by Israeli Ambassador to the US, Michael Oren, in which he wrote that "at least ten Iron Dome systems will be necessary in order to defend the whole country."
According to a Shin Bet investigation, Mohammed Merah entered Israel via the Allenby Bridge from Jordan in September 2010, before traveling on to Afghanistan,where he attended an al-Qaeda training camp. The investigation also revealed that the Shin Bet questioned Merah at the time, but having found nothing to arouse suspicion, permitted him to enter Israel.

This week the 124th class of IDF Naval Officers, including three women, completed their training and were stationed on deck Israeli Navy vessels. The IDF Chief of General Staff, Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz concluded his official visit to Canada on Friday. Gantz was greeted by his Canadian counterpart, General Walt Natynczyk, who emphasized the importance he sees in strengthening security cooperation between the two countries. Since 2008 there has been an accelerated rapprochement between the Canadian and Israeli security establishments.

JERUSALEM – Egypt announced that a cease-fire it brokered between terrorist groups in Egypt and Israel went into effect at 1 a.m. Tuesday, but several rockets and mortar shells fired from Gaza exploded in Israel after the announcement.

Ambassador Haim Waxman: "In previous letters . . . we warned of the dangers of inaction by the international community. We alerted the Council that these attacks had the potential to ignite a serious escalation of the conflict, which could affect the entire region. The latest of Iran's provocations against Israel came last week, when it became clear that the Iranian-sponsored terrorist group PRC had planned to carry out another terrorist attack on Israel’s southern border. This time however, the IDF decided not to rely on Egyptian security forces in Sinai in order to prevent this attack.
Multiple rockets were shot, after a ceasefire had gone into effect Tuesday. Rockets landed at Eshkol, Ashkelon, and Sha'ar Ha'Negev. Still, the shooting has subsided significantly. Palestinians agreed to stop launching rockets at Israeli cities, Israel agreed to stop targeting terrorist leaders from the air. Israel released only a noncommittal confirmation, saying "Quiet will be met with quiet."

The month of February 2012 has broken records in the tourism industry in Israel, with 232,000 visitor arrivals, 6% more than the same month last year, and an increase of 4% compared to February 2010, which marked the previous record. Out of 232,000 arrivals, 200,000 were tourist entries, another all-time record high.
Two Palestinians were killed Monday evening in an IAF strike east of Gaza City, bringing the death toll in Gaza to 25 since Friday. The IDF Spokesman reported that the IAF attacked a terrorist squad Monday night in northern Gaza, shortly before it was able to shoot a high trajectory, medium-range rocket toward Israeli territory.
Grad rockets exploded in the northernmost location registered in the current round of hostilities, the town of Gedera Monday. A rocket exploded in the center of Ashdod, wounding two and causing shrapnel damage. More rockets were fired at the city but were intercepted by the Iron Dome system. Meanwhile, unofficial ceasefire mediations have begun.

Some 13 years after its establishment, and six years after the court case on the settlement's legality began, all the residents of Migron, a large outposts in Judea and Samaria, arrived Sunday night at their local synagogue and signed an affidavit to be submitted to the court, committing to leave their homes voluntarily and without any forced eviction in three and a half years.
The military's latest estimate is that the rocket fire will continue in the coming days, and fears that the rockets' range will expand to the Tel Aviv area as well.
While the Air Force continues to attack Gaza and rocket attacks on communities in the south persist, following the killing of Gilad Shalit's kidnapper, both Israel's Prime Minister and Minister of Defense are threatening terrorist organizations in Gaza. In conversation with mayors in the south, Netanyahu said: "We'll arm ourselves with additional Iron Dome systems, which have tested well again." Barak: "No one in Gaza is immune." IDF Chief of Staff: "We will respond aggressively to every rocket launch against Israel."

Large amounts of water that swept through northern Israel and led to a strong flow of streams have produced exceptionally high figures for the National Lake's level. The Kinneret water is now at about 80 centimeters (31.5 inches) above the "lower red line." While rain may be ceasing soon, the snow thaw is expected to add even more water in the spring.

The plan, drawn up at the request of Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz, has little chance of succeeding without the cooperation of the Palestinians. But if the Palestinians won't even talk to the Israelis, its unlikely they'll be riding together anytime soon.
