The rocket attacks from Gaza, the terrorist attack in Sinai which was stopped by the IDF from coming into Israel, all stem from the change in the balance of power since Mubarak's ouster. Since then, not only have terror groups in Gaza been strengthened, but the Sinai has become a training and smuggling base for Gaza terror organizations and others, including Hezbollah, according to reports the IDF has been receiving since February 2011. When I read the platform I am shocked and disappointed. I can pick at the issues of popularity, Afghanistan and Iraq. But the failure to deal with revolutionary Islamism is ridiculously glaring (they didn’t use the tiniest fig leaf to cover themselves), making a mockery about the democracy and human rights’ pretensions. The treatment of Middle East allies is shockingly insulting. The issues of Syria and Egypt are simply dodged. There is not a single mention of the opposition in Iran. All terrorists not involved directly in the September 11, 2001, attacks are ignored. There is not the slightest hint that any regional strategy exists at all.
Less than 24 hours after the "Jerusalem is the capital of Israel" language was reinserted, this administration has once again shifted course. In today's State Department's daily press conference, the United States officially refuses to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. This is after DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz insisted on CNN that the position of President Obama has always been that Jerusalem is and always will remain the capital of Israel.
Over the past few weeks, the Israeli counter terrorism command approached national security forces in Cyprus, Greece, Bulgaria, and Thailand, requesting that they increase both the overt overt security for Israeli tourists who will be traveling to these countries during the Tishrei holiday period (Rosh Hashanah through Simchat Torah) when hundreds of thousands of Israelis are expected to visit abroad.
For the past 15 years Abdullah Faarruq was the Muslim chaplain at Northeastern University in Boston.
