It was a daunting, dismal weekend for Israel’s south, particularly for Israelis living in communities bordering the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip. At the opening of the weekly cabinet meeting in Jerusalem, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said terrorists would be “hit hard” in response to attacks on Israeli soldiers on civilians over the weekend. “The world needs to understand that Israel won’t just sit by… we’re ready to heighten our response,” Netanyahu said. “The IDF is acting, and will act, with force in Gaza.”

According to the IDF Spokesperson, in response to recent events, overnight IAF aircraft targeted a weapons manufacturing facility, two weapons storage facilities, and two rocket-launching sites in the northern Gaza Strip, as well as a weapons storage facility and a terror activity site in the southern Gaza Strip. Direct hits were confirmed. The Ma'an Palestinian news agency reported that Israeli tank shells killed 4 Palestinians and wounded 30 in the Gaza Strip on Saturday, according to medics and other witnesses.

The IDF has told Israeli residents near the Gaza border to stay within 15 seconds of their bomb shelters as they are expecting barrages of missiles tonight from Gaza.
An update from the IDF Spokesman's office: An engineering force that operated at the site located a number of powerful explosive devices. With the end of this force's activity, as it worked to repair the border fence, an explosion occurred in a terror tunnel. This was a very large explosion that exposed a tunnel roughly four meters deep and four meters wide. An empty IDF vehicle that was in the area was thrown into the air from the force of the explosion.
Arabs in Shuafat stabbed a policeman in the back and threw rocks at others after an undercover operation in the Jerusalem neighborhood went south. Nine policemen were injured, and police arrested a 17 year old Arab as the suspected stabber.

At around 4:00 PM on Sunday, rockets from Gaza struck south of Ashkelon in an open area. No injuries or damage were reported. At just after 4:37 PM, additional rockets from Gaza hit in the Eshkol region. Again, no injuries or damage were reported.

The drone was launched from Lebanon, in a cooperation between the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and the Lebanon-based terrorist group Hezbollah, the Sunday Times of London reported, citing unnamed sources. Days and nights in southern Israel have been punctuated by a growing number of sirens and rocket explosions, with over 60 rockets striking Israeli cities and communities this past week. On Monday morning alone, 55 Qassam and mortar shells were fired from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip on the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah. The rocket strikes damaged buildings, properties and a kibbutz petting zoo that is usually filled with children, but was empty because of the early morning hour.
