Report: IDF May Have Detonated Gaza Terror Tunnel

An Arab tweet Tuesday morning reported "the 'Occupation' detonated two explosive devices near the fence east of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip a short while ago." The only thing east of Khan Younis is the Israeli border, and the only thing worth blowing up there would be a terror tunnel.

Witnesses in the area told Ma'an that they had heard explosions near the Gaza border east of Khan Younis in the southern part of the Strip.

However, according to the IDF Spokesperson's Office, IDF forces located and diffused several explosive devices on Monday night and Tuesday morning on the border of the Gaza Strip and Israel, as part of "routine activity adjacent to the security fence.” The IDF spokesperson said the explosive devices had been “planted prior to Operation Protective Edge” in the summer of 2014.

On July 17, 2014, Hamas terrorists crossed the border through a tunnel about a mile away from Sufa and were stopped by IDF soldiers.

On July 21, 2014, two squads of armed Hamas terrorists crossed the Israeli border through a tunnel near Kibbutz Nir Am. The first squad of ten was killed by an Israeli air strike. A second squad killed four Israeli soldiers using an anti-tank weapon.

On July 28, 2014, Hamas terrorists attacked an Israeli military outpost near Nahal Oz using a tunnel, killing five Israeli soldiers, one attacker was killed.

On August 1, 2014, Hamas terrorists emerged from a tunnel and attacked an Israeli patrol in Rafah killing 2 soldiers.
