A unique "tripleheader'' of inspiration and talent were present in Hallandale Beach, on Selichos night, September 8. At 11 p.m., 770 Mashpia Reb Shlomo Zarchi lead the traditional farbrengen that customarily precedes Selichos. A double Hachnasas Sefer Torah celebration, recently held at Shaarei Torah of Los Angeles, began with the kesivas osios at the home of Regina Rechnitz, the Rechnitz family matriarch. The writing of the final letters was followed by a large procession through the streets of Los Angeles to the Shaarei Torah shul, home of the new Sifrei Torah.
In a creative initiative, Touro College Los Angeles’s new education concentration for working teachers is designed to meet the professional development needs of teachers in the Greater Los Angeles area by providing education courses each semester.

Touro College Los Angeles (TCLA), the West Coast’s only WASC-accredited Orthodox Jewish college, recently celebrated its sixth annual commencement ceremony.
Both houses of Congress unanimously passed bills awarding World War II hero, Raoul Wallenberg, with the country’s highest civilian honor, the Congressional Gold Medal, in recognition of his heroism in saving 100,000 Jews during the waning days of the Holocaust. The legislation is expected to be signed by President Barack Obama shortly.
This coming Wednesday evening, August 1, will see the largest convergence ever of American Jewry at a daf yomi Siyum HaShas celebration. The event, the Twelfth Siyum HaShas, to be held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford in the New Jersey Meadowlands, is sponsored by the Daf Yomi Commission of Agudath Israel of America.

With the countdown to the twelfth Siyum HaShas of Daf Yomi now down to the single digits, organizers of the event are working furiously to ensure that the massive event, for which all 93,000 available tickets have been sold, goes off without a hitch.

With bows and arrows, and around a bonfire, parents and children joined the Pittsburgher Rebbe on Lag B’Omer in joyously singing “Bar Yochai,” “V’amartem” and “Amar Rabbi Akiva.” Rabbis, teachers and members of the Los Angeles Jewish community – with their spouses – joined the celebration.

The Lakewood roshei hayeshiva, Rav Malkiel Kotler and Rav Yisroel Neuman spent Shabbos Parshiyos Tazria-Metzora (April 28) with the two largest Jewish communities of Los Angeles – Rav Kotler in Los Angeles-Hancock Park, and Rav Neuman in Pico-Robertson/Beverly Hills.
As a result of the combined efforts of administration, faculty and student body members toward implementing the academic mission of Touro College Los Angeles (TCLA), the college has grown mightily over the past year. On Tuesday afternoon, 26 Adar, March 20, 5772, Rabbi Chaim Pinchas Scheinberg, zt”l, returned his soul to the Creator. He was the rosh yeshiva of Torah Ore in Jerusalem, one of the leading rabbonim in Kiryat Mattersdorf, and a member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of Israel. The entire yeshiva world deeply mourns his passing.
Pia Levine, victim of last year's suicide bombing at Jerusalem’s International Convention Center (Binyanei Ha’uma), has rebounded from the horror with classy style. Less than two days after the 2011 attempt to end her life, she completed the Jerusalem Marathon in 2 hours and 10 minutes. She returned for this year's Jerusalem Marathon.
