The 33rd annual South Florida Chassidic Chanukah Festival is getting bigger and better. Over 10,000 people have attended the event since it was moved to Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach in 2007, and the upcoming festival set for Thursday, December 13, will include a star-studded show that is guaranteed to attract the largest attendance yet.
The South Florida Shomrim Society was formed to meet the needs of Jewish law enforcement officers and support personnel in Miami-Dade County. The organization has grown from a mere handful of members in 1984 to nearly three hundred. And Shomrim supports more than thirty charities each year with donations and hands-on physical help.
The Dr. Abe Chames High School of Yeshiva Toras Chaim Toras Emes will hold its annual Open House for prospective ninth grade talmidim and their parents on 19 Teves, Sunday evening, December 2 at 7 p.m.

The Jewish community is marking the 74th anniversary of Kristallnacht, which occurred on November 9-10 in 1938. South Florida’s Holocaust Memorial, located at 1933-1945 Meridian Avenue, held its ceremony on the evening of November 8. Commemorations were observed around the world.

The RASG Hebrew Academy staged “Cheat the Reaper,” on October 30. The program is an award-winning effort to alert high school students about the hazards of both drinking and driving and texting and driving.
Eighteen-year-old University of Florida student Christian Aguilar went missing on September 20. His frantic parents, Carlos and Claudia Aguilar, came to the college campus in Gainesville to search for their son. They held daily press conferences and begged for help. They handed out flyers. They organized vigils. Hundreds of law enforcement professionals, as well as volunteers from every background, were prompted to join in the effort.
Chabad House in Miami Beach has released its Torah Studies catalog of classes for the first season of the 2013 academic year. All classes will be held at The Chabad House, 669 North Lincoln Lane, Miami Beach. The sessions are open to men and women.
The Highland Lakes Center/Chabad Chayil, located at 2601 N.E. 211 Terrace in North Miami Beach, is again holding “Secrets of the Hebrew Alphabet.” The popular class will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday nights.
Vice President Joe Biden recently spoke at two of the largest retirement villages in South Florida, Boca Raton’s Century Village and Tamarac’s Kings Point. Biden, of course, was representing Barack Obama’s bid for reelection in the forthcoming presidential election.

A unique "tripleheader'' of inspiration and talent were present in Hallandale Beach, on Selichos night, September 8. At 11 p.m., 770 Mashpia Reb Shlomo Zarchi lead the traditional farbrengen that customarily precedes Selichos. At 1:15 a.m., Rabbi Yossy Lebovics, principal of the Chaya Aydel Seminary, lead the Selichos service accompanied by Sholom, Mendel and Dovid of the Lebovics Boys Choir.
