Six killed, 33 injured in Cairo University Clashes

Six people were killed and 33 injured in clashes early Tuesday, between supporters and opponents of ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, outside Cairo University, the Egyptian health ministry said in a statement.

The statement noted that clashes also broke out between the two sides in Tahrir square of downtown Cairo and Rabia al-Adawaeya square of Nasr City, leaving nine more people injured.

Late on Monday, three people were killed and 44 others injured in Tahrir square and Qalioubeya's Qalioub city as protesters from both sides exchanged rocks and birdshots, while gunshots were also heard in these areas.

The clashes erupted while Egypt's interim President Adli Mansour has been calling for national reconciliation. In a televised speech on Monday evening, Mansour said: "We want to open a new page, free of prejudice, hatred and division."
