Seventeen adult trainees completed their COJO Flatbush computer courses earlier this month and received their certificates during a festive ceremony complete with sushi, fruit, and pastries.

The students had attended twice-weekly evening sessions over a nine-week period in Basic (Introduction to Microsoft Windows and Office) or Advanced (Excel and QuickBooks) courses, both led by veteran computer instructor Reuven Benasaraf.

COJO Flatbush First Vice President Leon Goldenberg handed certificates to each of the graduates, congratulating them for their hard work and determination to improve their positions in a competitive job market. “These days,” he said, “computer skills are crucial in any corporate or organizational setting, and the knowledge you’ve gained though these courses will make a big difference for you in the workplace.”

COJO Flatbush CEO Louis Welz told the graduates, “Of all the many programs and services we offer, this is the one I’m most proud of. Other programs make a crucial but short-term impact on the lives of those who need help, but this is something you accomplished for yourselves, something you’ll use to better your job or career prospects. These courses are a perfect expression of what COJO is all about.”

COJO Director of Adult Education Caroline Edri said the celebratory atmosphere at each computer course graduation is “an expression of our recognition of the tenacity and effort on the part of our graduates. They deserve this show of support.”

COJO Flatbush computer courses are part of the New York City Council’s Digital Literacy and Inclusion Initiative and are funded through the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development with discretionary grants by Council Members Chaim Deutsch and Mathieu Eugene.

Computer courses (Beginner and Advanced) are held twice weekly for an hour and a half, beginning at 8:30 p.m. For further information or to register, contact Caroline Edri at 718-377-2900 (ext. 7604) or cedri@jewishcouncil.org.
