Syria’s Nadine Fahad has been named Miss Arab World 2012, according to a report in al-Arabiya.  The beauty pageant was held in Cairo on Sunday.

Egypt’s Rovan Yousuf came in second, with Tunisia’s Nadya Khalifa ranking third.

A translation of themissarabworld.org website said the “ideal Arab girl” would be chosen who represented Arab customs and traditions “under the banner of a call for modesty and culture.  Nonetheless, the new Miss Arab World was crowned wearing a one-strapped dress with cutouts at the waist.

Russia Today reported that Fahad beat 15 other contestants for the prize.

Only a third of the points were given for appearance.

The Jury of judges was taken from all over the Arab world, with written and oral tests conducted.
