How to Say 'President' in Hebrew

נָשִׂיא

נְשִׂיא מְדִינַת יִשְׂרָאֵל, מָר שִׁמְעוֹן פֶּרֶס President of the State of Israel, Mr. Shimon Peres listen
The word for president is נָשִׂיא (listen and repeat). In the original Biblical Hebrew, נשיא referred to a person of stature and leadership in a particular group or tribe. The root of the word is נ.שׂ.א (n.s.a) meaning raising up.For example:
וְעִידַת הַנָּשִׂיא מִתְרַחֶשֶׁת כָּעֵת בִּירוּשָלַיִם.
