Another Protest

Large protests broke out in Mea Shearim and outside Hadassah hospital today against the planned autopsy of a 4-month-old baby, the grandson of the mayor of Beit Shemesh.

Police suspect the baby was shaken to death, possibly by the baby's caretaker.

Some Ultra-Orthodox believe that autopsies are absolutely forbidden by Jewish law, with no exceptions.

Other halachic positions permit autopsies in certain circumstances, with very clear guidelines on how and when they may be performed.
