The long awaited and much-prayed-for zoning approval for the new Chabad building in Highland Lakes was realized recently when the Miami-Dade Zoning Commission gave its unanimous blessing for the groundbreaking educational center.

More than a hundred Chabad Chayil supporters came out to the commission meeting to speak on behalf of the organization and to offer heartfelt testimonials on how Chabad has already changed their lives and those of their families for the better. Community members recounted the importance of Chabad to the area, with its award-winning after-school program and other educational efforts that have helped hundreds of children.

“It’s been four years in coming, and we’re ecstatic about the result and for the ongoing support of this amazing community,” said Chabad Chayil’s Rabbi Moishe and Layah Kievman. “The victory occurred on Yud Shevat, an auspicious date on the Jewish calendar when the Rebbe assumed leadership” of the Chabad-Lubavitch community worldwide.”

The new building will host Chabad Chayil’s current award-winning programs: CHAP, cKids, cTeen, GROW, Hebrew School & Dovid Bryn Library. It will include 12 regular classrooms, 4 specialty classrooms, adult and children's libraries, indoor playground, Jungle Gym, social hall, and rooftop park.

“With over 30,000 square feet of indoor space and an 8,000 square foot rooftop park, the building will allow us to expand our current programming and services to include a preschool and a whole line up of extracurricular activities,” said the Kievmans.

For more information on the new facility, or about any of Chabad’s learning programs, contact Rabbi Kievman at (305) 770-1919 or visit ChabadChayil.org.
