Standing in the pouring rain,
I looked up to God and cried out in pain.
The Nazis are persecuting one by one,
Before it's too late I must run!Teens-032114-Gun

Breathing heavily my heart does race,
A look of terror upon my face.
And a man stands there straghit as a rail,
"Go that way and you will not fail."

I walked into the trap he set,
And there a terrible fate I met.
A gun aimed straight at my head,
The Nazi smirked "Filthy Jew, you're dead!"

"My name is Sofia and I'm no Jew",
I stammered almost wishing it were true.
Polavstrasse 23 is where I'm at,
The Nazi retorted, "We'll see about that!"

And so, soldiers pulled me by my hair,
I held my breath as they took me there.
I thought of my loved ones and of my past,
For I knew these moments were surely my last.

As we approached the run-down street,
The soldiers stared; my heart skipped a beat.
"This is the end," I thought tears rolling down my face,
The soldiers started to slow down their pace.

"Sofia," a voice so stern called out,
"Where have you been wondering about?
Your mother is waiting for you so worryingly"
And he pointed straight at Polastrasse 23!

All eyes turned to the voice in order to see,
The old man who spoke so convincingly.
When the solders realized the mistake they made,
With a click of their heel, they left afraid.

Confused, I wondered what was going on?
But when I turned around the old man was gone!
