Iron Beam to Join Iron Dome to Intercept Short-Range Missiles

Israel is ready to unveil a new “Iron Beam” system that can intercept short and low-flying rockets that the Iron Dome cannot stop.

A big plus for the Iron Beam system is that it uses a laser to hear and explode warheads, a system far less costly than the $50,00-a-piece Iron Dome anti-missile missile.

The Iron Beam can knock out incoming rockets as far as slightly more than four miles away. Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, which also makes the Iron Dome systems, will show off the Iron Dome next month at an air show in Singapore.

With the advanced Arrow III, designed to take out long-range missiles, and David’s Sling that is being tested to intercept medium-range missiles, and Iron Dome for short-range rockets, the Iron Beam will give Israel multi-layer defense against incoming missiles and rockets.
