This week we are joined by Zev Padway and David Friedman. David is a well known Kabbalistic artist here in the city of Tzfat. His gallery prior to the Coronavirus could see hundreds of visitors a day viewing the very colorful and graphic artwork based on the Sefer Yetzirah (Book of Creation). Zev, another Tzfat resident and local entrepreneur came up with the idea of making David's artwork into a Kabbalah coloring book. However, once they got started in turned into much more than just a simple coloring book. With the addition of Kabbalistic meditations, this turned into a book in and of itself with deep Kabbalistic concepts explained. Abraham, Issac and Jacob lived with a G-dly mission and did what they could to share G-d's oneness and His purpose for mankind with the world. They hoped to pass this mission down to the next generation to increase the light that they ignited. Some chose to follow in the path of G-d and others rejected it.

On this week’s Israel Uncensored with Josh Hasten, Josh says that with election chaos reigning in the US, whether projected election winner Joe Biden becomes president, or current President Donald Trump is able to prove voter fraud and stay in office, Israel needs to step up and do what’s in its best interests regardless of outside influence.

While Josh acknowledges that President Trump was Israel’s best friend ever in the White House, and gratitude is in order, it’s the Israeli leadership which has to change its mentality and step up no matter who is in the White House, at 10 Downing Street, etc. Living in Israel for 19 years, Josh says that his president isn’t Joe Biden, but President Rivlin along with PM Netanyahu.

The latest Islamist atrocity in Europe occurred on November 2, 2020 in Vienna, Austria with a deadly attack that occurred on the eve of a lockdown triggered by an upsurge in the Coronavirus pandemic. The attack was perpetrated by one or more assailants on patrons at open air cafes on an exceptionally warm evening in the Austrian Capital. The toll was four (plus the perpetrator) killed, and 22 injured, several seriously. It is alleged that more than 100 shots were fired before quick work by Vienna police SWAT teams took down the principal perpetrator. Austrian counterterrorism security and police instituted a man hunt for the alleged accomplices who witnesses described as attired in white with black balaclavas and carrying long guns.

The Vienna attack is the latest in a series of Islamist barbarous attacks in France involving the beheading of a schoolteacher, the late Samuel Paty by an 18 year old Chechen refugee, who had lectured on the exercise of free speech to students in junior high school in a Paris Suburb using the Charlie Hebdo cartoons that satirized Mohammed, the Prophet of Islamic doctrine. The Charlie Hebdo cartoons had triggered a January 7, 2015 massacre that killed 12, injuring 11 at the satirical Charlie Hebdo editorial quarters, and four Jewish hostages of a group of 20 detained at a Kosher supermarket. This was followed by an attack on the Nice cathedral by a 20-year Tunisian refugee émigré who entered France from Italy as a migrant from North Africa. An 85-year-old parishioner was barbarously beheaded while at prayer, and two others were stabbed to death. The perpetrator was shot and wounded by Nice police and placed in custody. There was an attempted murder by an 18-year-old Pakistani émigré bearing a machete near the former site of Charlie Hebdo editorial offices. Seven suspects have subsequently been detained by French police.

These attacks spawned outcries in the Muslim ummah of “blasphemy” – criticism of Islamic doctrine and defamation of the image of the Prophet Mohammed - - and calls for boycotts of French goods and services by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey and the “massacres of millions of French” by aging Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammed. In New York, the French consulate was the site of protests by local Imams of the actions of French President Macron to preserve the secular principles of free speech of the Republic.

On the occasion of a pause of Israel News Talk Radio – Beyond the Matrix program, due to the medical condition of host Rod Reuven Bryant, he and producer and co-host Jerry Gordon reached out to interview Austrian free speech advocate and Islamic doctrine critic, Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff about the impact of the Islamist attack in Vienna. They had previously interviewed American ex-pat, writer, and author Nidra Poller on the background of the Islamist murder of French schoolteacher Samuel Paty.

Gordon has known Ms. Sabaditsch -Wolff for over a decade and had interviewed her on various trials in both Austria and at the European Court of Human Rights over her criticism of Islamic doctrine. These are chronicled in her memoir, “The Truth is No Defense”, published by the New English Review press in 2019 and available on Amazon.

Ms. Sabaditsch-Wolff’s views about free speech and criticism of Islamic doctrine stem from her experience as a child of an Austrian diplomat. She explains that when her father was held postings in New York and Chicago, as a junior high school student, where she learned about US Constitution guarantees of free speech, freedom of religious worship and criticism of religious doctrine. She learned firsthand the excesses of Islamist extremism when the family was posted to Iran during the 1979 Revolution and later working as a visa officer in Kuwait and Libya.

She gave compelling witness of the initial impact of the Islamist impact as her daughter, who is a music and performance student at a special high school was locked down while attending a theater performance along with 600 other attendees. First news of the attack came shortly after 8PM via alerts to her husband, an Austrian Army medical officer, in cell messages and videos of the attack. He immediately dressed in his combat boots and drove into the center area of the attack to await release of their daughter. Ms. Sabaditsch-Wolff noted that the synagogue in the Jewish quarter was not a target of the Islamists’ attacks but rather the adjacent entertainment complex of bars, restaurants, and theaters in the center of Vienna. The 20- year perpetrator held dual Austrian and north Macedonian citizenship and apparently came from an Albanian Muslim family. He had been convicted of a prior provocation but was released early because of his age.

She was particularly impressed over the immediate actions by French President Macron who tweeted in perfect German his nation’s solidarity with Austria’s Chancellor Kurz and the Austrian people. He also went out of his way to pay a visit to the legation of the Austrian Ambassador.

She spoke about her own travails regarding her trials in the Austrian court system over a lecture she gave on the Koranic doctrine involving 56-year-old Prophet Mohammed and his marriage to 6-year-old Aisha consummated at age nine. This arose from a left-wing journal report at one of her professional seminars. Unlike the US, Austria and many other EU countries hold it a crime to denigrate the doctrine of an established and recognized religion. She was fined for her actions and appealed the conviction through the Austrian Supreme Court. She sought ultimate relief that was ultimately denied at the European Court of Human Rights. Her fight for free speech and legal chronicle are portrayed in her memoir, “The Truth is No Defense”. Sabaditsch-Wolff views only Israel and the US as “the bastions of free speech” in the West.

Rod Reuven Dovid Bryant and Jerry Gordon held a valedictory discussion on the record of over 180 programs they presented at Israel News Talk Radio- Beyond the Matrix that will “pause” with the revelations of a growth in Bryant vocal cords. This followed a recent case COVID-19, that he does not wish on his or anyone’s worst enemy. Bryant and Gordon reviewed significant programs that were typically ahead of the news with guests like Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff, Nidra Poller, Kenneth Timmerman, Dan Diker and Stephen Bryen. On Sunday, October 18, 2020, tens of thousands of Parisians including French President Macron filled Place de la République protesting the grisly beheading of French schoolteacher, Samuel Paty by an 18-year-old Chechen refugee at the junior high school in a suburb. Thousands rallied in other major French cities. The Macron Government is taking this latest jihadist attack with seriousness and dispatch going after those Islamists who fomented a fatwa against the hapless late Professor Paty who displayed the Charlie Hebdo cartoons in his civic class as an example of freedom of speech.

Those Charlie Hebdo Cartoons inflamed jihadists on January 7, 2015 to attack the former editorial offices killing 11; while another jihadist took hostages at a Kosher supermarket, killing four Jews.

The Macron government and most French revere secular education and teachers are held in high esteem in the society. However, this time it appears that the French Interior Ministry and the counterterrorism prosecutors are going after those who are considered “accomplices after the fact” in the commission of this crime shutting down alleged French Muslim anti-Islamophobia civil rights groups and Mosques supporting Islamic separatism in France.

Interior Minister Gérard Darmanin declared: “They launched a fatwa against him (Paty).”

The father of a schoolgirl and his accomplice—a notorious anti- Zionist agitator, head of the Cheikh Yassin association—fomented revolt against the teacher, Samuel Paty, who showed Mohamed cartoons in a lesson on freedom of speech. Investigators have discovered that they communicated by phone with the 18-year-old Chechen refugee who beheaded the teacher in Conflans Ste. Honorine and was shot nd killed by French police.

Turkey’s Erdogan, the presumptive leader of a Muslim Brotherhood alliance has declared a “boycott’ of France, a NATO partner saying that Macron needed his head examined for condoning caricatures of the prophet of Islam. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the French leader has “lost his way.” France announced it was recalling its ambassador for consultations.

France’s Jews have responded by calling for solidarity with President Macron, who has called out rising anti-Semitism given the current trial of accomplices in the January 7, 2015 Charlie Hebdo “massacre" and disturbing testimony by surviving French Jewish hostages at the Hyper Casher Market.

• French Interior Minister, Gérald Darminin, is Catholic. His maternal grandfather, Moussa Ouakid, was a brave, handsome, French Muslim patriot born in Algeria, who fought with the French Résistance in 1944 and remained loyal to France during the Algerian liberation war.

• Ms. Poller says that Paty’s murder is a definitive moment in the defense against Jihad and Islamism in France. 80 people who expressed support for the murderer on social media are having their homes searched.

The Telegraph reported that China has ramped up pressure on Taiwan with videos of a simulated major attack on the Island and an alleged “spying confession” of a Taiwanese businessman. Last Week during Taiwan’s National Day, President Tsai Ing-wen of the 24 million island nation had the temerity to “urge the Chinese Communist Party to engage in meaningful dialogue” on an equal basis. China has been making several demonstrations of force with its air force “crossing the Taiwan Straits” middle line. China has rejected any negotiations with Ms. Tsai’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government was elected in 2016.

China is even peevish toward the proposal of the Kuomintang opposition party the KMT in Taiwan that has proposed “independence” and renewal of relations with the US. The semi-official Global Post of the Chinese Communist Party noted: “Taiwan's "Legislative Yuan" on Tuesday passed two proposals from the KMT, which are to "request the US to help confront the CPC," and "for the Taiwan Island and the US to resume diplomatic ties," Taiwan local media reported. The KMT also called on the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to "work actively" on these two issues.

Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, responded by saying that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, and both sides of the Taiwan Strait belonging to the same China is an unalterable historical and legal fact”.

The Trump Administration further enraged the CCP by sending US Secretary for Health and Human Services Alex Azar, followed by Keith Krach, Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment to Taiwan. The RAND Corporation’s Derek Grossman, a senior defense analyst with the RAND Corporation and an expert in the region, said the approach went hand in hand with a strategy being referred to in the Pentagon as Fortress Taiwan.

He told Express.co.uk: "For decades, the US has sought to bolster Taiwan’s defensive capabilities to prevent China from being able to successfully launch an amphibious invasion against the island, or to otherwise conduct military operations meant to harm it (such as a blockade or missile strikes)”. The question Grossman suggests is the “right mix. His suggestions; sea mines and anti-ship missiles.

But Dr. Stephen Bryen, Former Deputy Undersecretary of Defense during the Reagan Era is someone who knows Taiwan’s has a better idea. In a Newsweek article he wrote of a suggestion he made at a lecture at Taiwan’s National Defense University in 2018: “I proposed having a standby force of F-35's in the U.S. that either would belong to Taiwan or be leased to Taiwan. That force would be available to respond to any retaliation by mainland China”. Bryen’s Newsweek article was immediately republished in Taiwan news outlets causing a flurry of attention.

Rod Reuven Dovid Bryant and Jerry Gordon brought back Dr. Bryen to discuss his proposals for Taiwan and his views on the current conflict in the South Caucasus between Azerbaijan and Armenia with regional ramifications involving Russia, Turkey, Israel, and Iran.

The following are takeaways from the interview with Dr. Stephen Bryen. On deterrent value of US leasing F-35 to Taiwan.

China has engaged in significant exercises on the mainland aimed at a possible invasion. Heretofore, the US has refused to sell Taiwan the F-35 stealth aircraft. Bryen proposes to lease upwards of 100 of the F-35 B versions which has STOL – short takeoff and landing capabilities. This would avoid a possible Chinese missile pre-emptive attack on Taiwan’s airfields in the opening phases of a possible invasion. China’s formidable air fleet is composed of the J-10, J-11, J-20 and copy of the Russian SU-35. Taiwanese pilots would be trained in the US and the planes re-tailed with Taiwanese insignia kept here. They could be flown on an emergency basis and refueled mid-flight to arrive within hours of an alert. The benefits of Bryen’s approach are it avoids a $10 Billion sale and years for delivery; US direct involvement which might worsen China relations; and it maintains stability and peace in the region. It is modeled on the historic FDR- Churchill 1940 US Lend Lease program with Great Britain that sent 50 overage US destroyers, other naval assets and aircraft to fight the Nazi Submarine Wolf Packs attacking convoys at a critical moment in WWII, when the US was allegedly neutral.

US has Complicated Relationship with Taiwan.

Kissinger and Nixon in 1972 abandoned relations with Taiwan to appease Communist China. US military bases, missions and troops were pulled out of Taiwan, Effectively, as Bryen said, the US “derecognized” Taiwan to enter relations with mainland China. In 1979, US Congress, passed the Taiwan Relations Act, but successive Administrations hesitated to commit military aid. Taiwan has only a trade mission in Washington and no military mission. When a missile crisis occurred in 1996, Bryen noted that it took the US two weeks to place an Aircraft Carrier battle group in position to deter Chinese action against Taiwan.

China’s View of Taiwan and the South China Sea.

Historically, China views Taiwan as an integral part of China. China’s claims of the man-made islands in the South China Sea are illegal under a ruling by the Internal Court of Claims. China, according to Bryen has also claimed Okinawa and the Ryukyus Islands of Japan. Bryen considers Taiwan worthy of protection as democratic and economic powerhouse in the region. The opposition Kuomintang Party of Taiwan Bryen cited had previously proposed amalgamation with China However, following the enactment of Chinese National Security laws and protests in Hong Kong, it has changed its position towards independence for Taiwan, further exacerbating relations with Communist China.

The US QUAD Proposal has a Problem Japan, and it does not include Taiwan.

The Trump Administration is pursuing a NATO like arrangement in the Indo Pacific region, the QUAD which would include Australian, India, the US and Japan. Bryen questions why this alleged “coalition of the willing” would leave out Taiwan. Further, it is complicated by the anti-militarism policies of Japan, made vulnerable by China’s trade entre. That Bryen believes Secretary Pompeo recognizes Japan’s deficiencies and is simply seeking improvement of its military capabilities. Bryen’s assessment is that Japan’s Self Defense Force Air Force with its F-35Bs and Navy, especially its submarine force, are formidable. Its Army is less capable. That is complicated by toxic relations with South Korea. Australia, he considers a strong partner.

Taiwan needs a Military Treaty with the US eliminating restrictions.

Bryen, views as problematic proposals to fortify Taiwan through massive military purchases. It cannot be defended against a formidable power like China. Instead, he believes that a US needs to conclude a military treaty with Taiwan to survive a monumental assault by China. He noted that President H.W. Bush in 1991 authorized sales of the F-16A. That is being upgraded now and Taiwan is buying 60 advanced F-16Vs. He gave the example of how US restrictions on the US supplied engines for the Taiwan indigenous FCK-1 fighter gave it what he deemed “short legs” preventing it from reaching China.

Taiwan’s US supplied Air Defense System is vulnerable to drone attack.

Taiwan has the latest version of the Patriot air defense system –the PAC-3. It has a $680 million upgrade contract for the $6.85 billion program. However, the PAC-3 ability to defend against China’s drones is not good. Taiwan has MANPADS - shoulder fired anti-aircraft weapons; Taiwan also has a home grown air defense system based on the Nike Hercules and still fields Improved Hawk Missiles. Air defense against China’s multiple threat is a real challenge for Taiwan.

On the War in the South Caucasus between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Bryen noted that Russia is supplying weapons to both Azerbaijan and Armenia in the two-week-old conflict. Azerbaijan has Turkish, Israeli and Byelorussian equipment in its arsenal. Bryen noted the Turkish Bayraktar TV2 drones were used effectively in Azerbaijani attacks. Confirmed report suggest that Turkey has positioned 2 to 4 F-16s in Azerbaijan and one may have shot down an Armenian Sukhoi 25. He drew attention to a recent Israel High court ruling in a case brought by a peace group that arms sales to Azerbaijan can continue.

Relations between Azerbaijan and Israel are friendly. Moreover, the Shia Muslim country has a tolerant attitude to both Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jewish communities who have lived there for hundreds of years.

Bryen noted that Azerbaijan has a population of 10.5 million but in adjacent Iran, which supports Armenia in the conflict there are as many as 15 Million Azeris. The Iranian regime worries the Azeris could be an internal threat.

Difficulty of settling the dispute over the breakaway Nagorno Karabakh Republic.

The Nagorno Karabakh Republic with its own leader and has a population of 150,000, 85% of which are Armenians. They have been unable to reach settlement with Azerbaijan in 25 years regarding compensation for refugees and territory. Russia has held consultations with both sides resulting in a failed cease fire. Bryen believes that what Moscow wants to do is restart the Madrid Process that would include the UK, EU, Russia, and the US. As it now stands fighting has renewed after a Russia arranged cease fire.

Bobbi Rebell, author of How to be a Financial Grownup: Proven Advice from High Achievers on How to Live Your Dreams and Have Financial Freedom discusses how to be a financial grownup. Bobbi uses her journalist background to offer a how-to guide for responsible money habits. Although the book was originally intended for the millennial generation, Bobbi soon discovered that people of all ages need practical money advice.

Bobbi suggests automation as a tool for making sure you have the necessary discipline to maintain financial responsibility. She and Doug talk about David Bach and support financial automation as a tool to reach financial goals.
