‘Oh, Say Can You Sing the Right Lyrics?’ (Video)

A group of Haredi a capella singers struck out at the opening ceremonies of the annual Flatbush Hatzolah-New York police Department baseball game in Brooklyn.

The lead singer was able to get through the lyrics of the Star Spangled Banner thanks to his smartphone, but his choir fouled it up.

One of them tried to fake it by acting as the orchestra leader, even though no one was looking at him. He moved his hand to the melody instead of even trying to pretend he knows the words. Other singers mumbled through the first few words until one of them realized the microphone was not working properly.

They started over again, and by the time the lead singer was belting out “the rocket's red glare,” most of his back-ups were more or less going along for the ride, and a couple of the singers did not even bother moving their lips.

The lead Haredi singer really did a great job, thanks to his smartphone, making his way through one of the most difficult to sing melodies imaginable without breaking his voice.

His masterful intonation on the last words “the brave” scored a big hit.

He would be a great chazzan for Musaf, and his back-ups presumably know those words by heart.

Anyone one want to invite them to Israel's next Yom Ha’Atzmaut?
